Formulation behaviour

Hull-derived fibre undergoes refining before it becomes a controlled food ingredient. Its functionality is primarily particle-based. Bran processing follows a different route: defatting reduces the oil fraction, while stabilisation limits reactions associated with the native bran enzyme system.

During food preparation, starch and protein remaining in bran-derived material contribute their own heat response alongside the fibre. In bakery, water retained by either fibre type changes the hydration of flour components and can influence volume and firmness. Particle size controls how prominently the fibre is expressed in the finished texture.

Refined rice hull fibre, stabilised rice bran, defatted bran and bran-derived fibre concentrates represent distinct forms. They differ in source tissue, purification and residual composition. Within refined fibre powders, particle size and fibre length provide further physical distinctions.

Millet fibre brings a different species-dependent bran composition. Refined oat and wheat fibres often emphasise insoluble cell-wall structure with less residual grain material. Rice starch is a cooking and texture ingredient based on starch rather than a rice fibre concentrate.
