Butyrate, a butyrate salt and a microbial preparation are different materials. Obtain the full identity, composition, manufacturing information and specification before assessing a proposed ingredient.
Use the terms precisely
Under the ISAPP definition, a postbiotic contains inanimate microorganisms or their components and provides a demonstrated health benefit. A purified metabolite such as butyrate does not qualify on its own. A general description of microbial fermentation is not evidence for a particular product.
Confirm the market and product requirements
Regulatory status depends on the exact ingredient, intended use and destination market. Ask for the current basis for use and any restrictions; do not infer approval from the terms natural, microbiome or postbiotic.
